In this body of work, I use photogravure etchings and silver-gelatin prints to present a selection of film photographs depicting various skate parks in California, Hawai'i, and Oregon. This work serves as a personal archive, but also a living documentary that preserves the beauty of the concrete structures through snapshots in time. Many places I skate are ephemeral in nature as they go through cycles of demolition and rebirth, especially DIYs (skater-built locations). I find it extraordinarily fulfilling to capture some of these phases and depict them in a polished way to accentuate their value. In order to pay homage to these seemingly mundane–or even unsightly to some–structures, I use an analog art process so that I am able to alter variables with my hands along the way. Connecting to the materiality of my process reminds me of the way I connect to the concrete when I skate; it brings me joy to find parallels between my passions.
